Leah Galton Joins Burnley Women After Manchester United Exit

Burnley Women have officially secured the signing of experienced winger Leah Galton on a one-year contract, with the option to extend for an additional year. The 32-year-old marks a significant addition to the squad as she arrives after a notable tenure with Manchester United, where she became one of the most recognizable figures since joining their inaugural women’s team in 2018.

Galton's departure from Manchester United concludes an impressive eight-year period at the Women's Super League (WSL) club, where she emerged as the second-highest goalscorer in the club's history. Her dominant performances and contributions on the pitch have made her a pivotal player for United, and her experiences will certainly be invaluable for the upcoming season at Burnley.

Upon completing her transfer, Galton expressed her excitement about the move, stating that she was initially uncertain about her next steps in her career. "It’s very, very exciting actually. I wasn’t too sure what was going to happen, but Burnley have come in for me and I absolutely said yes, so I’m excited to get started," she remarked. Galton also highlighted the impressive facilities at Burnley's training ground and the warm welcome she received since her arrival, which has made her feel right at home.

In preparation for her return to competitive football, Galton has been focused on maintaining her fitness during the pre-season. Despite her efforts, she acknowledges that there is still some work ahead before she is fully match-ready. "I’ve done as much as I could to keep fit during pre-season, and I’ve got a little bit of work to do before I’m fully ready to be back on the pitch. You’ll hopefully see me soon, as I’ve missed playing so much," she added, demonstrating her eagerness to rejoin the action on the field.

Galton began her football journey in Leeds United’s academy before venturing to the United States in 2012 to play college soccer for Hofstra Pride. Her career also includes a season in the NWSL with Sky Blue FC and a brief stint in Germany with Bayern Munich. Ultimately, she returned to England, where her impactful career at Manchester United began alongside current Burnley teammate Naomi Hartley, solidifying her legacy within women’s football in England.
