Halle Houssein Joins Sheffield United on Loan for 2026/27 Season

Halle Houssein has officially joined Sheffield United on loan for the 2026/27 season, as the talented midfielder aims to further her development in the Barclays Women's Super League 2. This season-long loan, confirmed by West Ham United, offers Houssein an important opportunity to gain regular first-team football, which is crucial as she continues to carve out her career in professional football.

The 21-year-old midfielder began her journey with West Ham after she moved from Arsenal on a dual-registration basis in January 2022, later making a permanent switch to the East London club later that year. Houssein made an immediate impact upon her debut for the Hammers by scoring against Chelsea in the FA Women’s League Cup quarter-finals in the same month. Just two weeks later, she stepped onto the pitch for her first Women’s Super League match, contributing to a 3-0 home victory over Everton, which set the tone for her burgeoning career.

Through her impressive performances, Houssein quickly established herself as a valuable asset within West Ham’s first-team squad. To maximize her experience, she has participated in several loan spells that have allowed her to gain vital match time. Her first loan initiative saw her head to Gillingham during the latter half of the 2022/23 season, where she made nine appearances in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.

For the 2023/24 season, Houssein joined Reading on loan, where her contributions were significant; she became a regular fixture in their midfield, starting all 13 Women’s Super League appearances. Her tenure with the Royals also included participating in the Women’s FA Cup and League Cup, totaling 18 appearances and showcasing her potential on the big stage. In her most recent loan spell, she played the second half of the 2024/25 season with Turkish side Beylerbeyi, further enhancing her experience before returning to West Ham.

Alongside her club commitments, Houssein has also made appearances for both England and Türkiye at international levels. Initially capped by England, she represented the U15 and U19 sides before switching her allegiance to Türkiye. Houssein debuted for the senior Türkiye national team in July 2024 during a UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 qualifying match against Switzerland and has been an important part of the squad, starting in a decisive qualifying victory over Malta in March 2026.
