Géraldine Reuteler Joins Arsenal, Eyes Success in WSL

As the 2026/27 Women’s Super League (WSL) season approaches, Arsenal has strengthened their squad with the signing of Swiss midfielder Géraldine Reuteler. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Her Football Hub during Arsenal’s media day, Reuteler shared insights regarding her decision to leave Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt, her ambition to compete in one of the world's most prestigious leagues, and her excitement about playing at the iconic Emirates Stadium.

The transfer was officially announced in early July following a summer filled with speculation, particularly after Arsenal parted ways with key player Lia Wälti, who transferred to Juventus. Despite having one year remaining on her contract, Reuteler ultimately chose to conclude her lengthy eight-year tenure at Frankfurt to embark on this new chapter in England. "I wanted to see another league and the English league is one of the best leagues in the world. So yeah, I’m really happy to be here," she remarked, highlighting her enthusiasm for joining one of football’s foremost clubs.

At just 27 years old, Reuteler arrives at Arsenal with a wealth of experience. She made her international debut as a teenager and has since participated in three European Championships as well as the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Her growth in the sport began at a young age when she followed her older brothers into football, starting her journey at FC Stans before moving to FC Luzern, where she made her senior debut in the Swiss top flight at the age of 15.

Known for her adaptability, Reuteler has honed her skills as a versatile attacking midfielder capable of excelling in various positions on the pitch. Arsenal manager Renée Slegers expressed her belief that Reuteler’s box-to-box playing style would integrate seamlessly into the team’s tactical setup, which could prove vital as Arsenal aims to reclaim the WSL title for the first time since the 2018/19 season. Reuteler conveyed her confidence in fitting into Arsenal's system, stating, "She told me I’m the box-to-box player, so I think I’ll fit in the system of how Arsenal want to play."

As a summer of significant movement from Germany to England unfolds, with Arsenal signing several players from the Frauen Bundesliga, Reuteler views this transition as a personal opportunity for growth. She reflected on the differences in approach between the two leagues, noting, "I think the Bundesliga is also a good league, a lot of good players, but I think it stopped improving. I think it’s a right step for me to be here, to see something else, something new, and also to improve." After an impactful spell at Frankfurt, Reuteler is now eager to embrace her new surroundings, with the promise of a dynamic environment that Arsenal offers, especially in terms of resources and support for players.
